A frenum piercing is a type of body modification that involves the insertion of jewelry through the webbed skin between the upper lip and gums. It has been around since ancient times, with evidence of its use in multiple cultures being found as far back as 3000 BC. The piercing itself originated in India, but variations have become popular all over the world – particularly in Europe and North America. It is an attractive form of body art, often chosen for its low-key yet aesthetically pleasing aesthetic.

Frenum piercings can come in many variations, depending on personal preference or which area it’s placed. A traditional frenum piercing goes through one side of the upper lip webbing but there are other locations such as horizontal or vertical placement on either side of your lower lip or even at different points along your tongue webbing – known as “tongue frenulum piercings”. Some people opt to get multiple piercings arranged into patterns to create more intricate designs – these are called “ladder” piercings and can create unique looks when combined with facial jewelry (such as septum rings) for a truly individual style statement!
